What is silly about GW's default package? How many MMORPG's have you seen print "X character slots" on the packaging? I haven't seen any myself. The reason: application specifics can change from patch to patch. Also, there's only so much room on the outside of the physical software box. Retail packaging is supposed to entice impulse purchases. Small text that can become quickly outdated doesn't help sales, while colorful cover artwork does. Many still judge books and titles by their cover -- that is the nature of marketting.

Yes, I did research on GW and knew about the 4 character slot limitation before buying it. However, this is not a requirement to fully enjoy present game content.

The fact that GW has no monthly fee blows a hole in just about 99% of the bitchin' going on here.

As for the other 1%, the folks complaining about not being able to merge multiple Prophecies accounts, you have a valid point, but owning multiple merged accounts is STILL cheaper than having a monthly fee, so there you go.

If I could have my cake and eat it too, i'd rather throw something less expensive than money at my GW problems ... rocks, for example.

But hey, I have a job that pays well ... $10 is a day's lunch for a permanent new char slot? Sign me up!

I always felt it was limited to 4 so that you had to think about what type of character to build. I probably spent 10 times as much time deciding on how to design my characters than I would have if I had 1 slot for each profession. I feel I ended up with stronger characters because of it. Limitation invites innovation.

Some people don't need to suffer hardship to achieve greatness.

On a tangent that's been raised:

And imagine the horrors if someone merged stolen accounts.
Someone also mentioned the future markdown of Prophecies which inevitably happens. I'd suspect this would have to be really well-thought before seriously considering it, and even then probably be like a one-time amnesty i.e. with a deadline to merge your accounts.

Also, does anyone else see the irony in this thread being started by a poster whose name is "Hysteria" ?

... just wondering if I was the only one to notice that

Well, true. I was just saying that it made me give much more thought to what characters I wanted to create since I could only have 4 of 6 primaries. I feel it's a really neat dynamic. I never felt like it was a hardship, though others do.

Default Buying character slots?

First of all I don't know if this is in the right place but if it needs to be moved that is fine.

I read on the Guild Wars site that soon we will be able to buy character slots. I bought 2 copies of the game so I could have a character of each type. Now suddenly they are gonna offer us buyable character slots??? Well here is the way i see it.

I payed $59.99 for a collectors edition of the original game. $49.99 for my second account so I could have a char of each type. And now I have reserved 2 copies of Faction 1 collector's and 1 regular. All togethor that is over $230 because I liked and cared about the game enough to spend that. I understand prices drop but that is not the issue here. I am going to have to pay almost double for each expansion as to what people who waited are going to have to. I could have had all my charcters for $80 with the collectors edition and all my faction chars for $150 total instead of the $230. On top of that who knows how many expansions I will have to pay double for.

I am not suggesting that this doesn't happen it would be good for alot of people. I am suggesting that in some way I should be able to link my accounts. So that in the future I won't have to pay double for my expansions. I mean I put alot of money and time into the game and right now I can't even transfer stuff from character to character without asking a frend to help.

At this point I only see this as a offence to the people willing to pay for these extra accounts. All in all if I can't link my accounts I will restart my characters on bought character slots. Which will most likely frustrate me and cause me to quit this wonderful game and end up playing something else.

Thanks,

Poke

Yeah same here, I have 4 accounts all because of the slot and storage shortage from all the holiday items. Of course I would love to transfer my toons to one account but I don't fore see that happing anytime soon.

Anet should've given enough slots to start with no ifs, ands, or buts period.

Default need some info and included an idea for A-NET

ok,i started reading and did some thinking,i ran out of patience trying to read all the posts.pro/con cry either way.....i think its great.i dont play any other online game and truly LOVE this game.(try to play almost every day).my BIG question is:will i be able to merge 2 accounts,ie.prophecies, into each other?i hope so.IDEA for A-NET heres a money maker for you, that makes sense.add in more races to play in the expantion after factions.lets see...... even 2 more races(that are backwards compatable with previous releases)with no additional classes =6x3(races total)=18 needed character slots to have all the pve only char combos, multiply that times 2 for pvp and the magic number is:36 needed.ya have 6 charecter slots,at this point per [email protected] ea...........for extra slots we would need 30 more...that is 300.00 profit per player, and most die hard players will try to come up with the cash.i know i would and im not rich by any means(not yet anyways)so it would add a real flavor to the game, as noone will have maxed characters in every possible class any time soon, adding a real fantacy flavor to the game and money to support our fun/addiction.i almost forgot if i want both sexs in every class, well im sure you can do the math........just a thought and level 20 will suddenly seems acceptable real fast.......

sorry for bad grammer/spelling if it exsists....

LOL. Some criticize A.net for doing anything that might turn them a profit, and others look to devise a big money-maker for them. Can't please everyone.

I'm hoping Anet would help out the people with this situation, seeing as how many people bought a second (and third) account for slots. Some of my guildmates have multiple accounts and some of them weren't too happy when they found out that you can have the option to purchase slots. Therefore, I'm hoping sooner or later (meaning this summer), Anet would find a way to let them merge their multiple accounts together so they won't have to buy many copies of each chapter.
I purchased two accounts ( and pre-ordered two copies of factions as well ) and the fact they're now - after all this time - offering character slots is , at the very least , odd.

They have know about the request by avid players ever since GW was pretty much released and only now have they decided to address this issue .Makes all those folks who bought those 2 accounts ( in order to be able to play all classes as primary ) scratch their heads , I can tell you that.

"ripped off " springs to mind...

As for the merging of acounts .They have repeatedly stated this will never happen so we're ( folks with multiple accounts ) the big losers - having forked out close to $200 for 4 games ( actually 1 game with enough character slots ) .

[EDIT}:
